Knit on Texel Retreat 2023

The concept of the Knit on Texel retreat was born out of my deep love for knitting, and the desire to share that creative passion with likeminded people, preferably in beautiful and inspiring surroundings. I wanted to create something special, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, where everyone can relax, breathe, learn, share, and do what they love.

The splendor and beauty of magical Texel is deeply rooted in my being. I grew up on this small island in the North-West of the Netherlands, and to gather in this extraordinary place to truly unwind, connect, and nourish our creativity was like a dream come true.

KnoT23 exceeded our expectations in the most fabulous way, we truly had a blast! Therefore, we are happy to announce that in the coming months, we will organize KnoT24 to return in May 2024.

We will keep you posted when booking opens and hope to see some of you there.

Love,
Natasja & the Knit on Texel team

People

To all knitters and non-knitters that were there; a huge thank you for your trust, your talent, your creativity, your stories, your enthusiasm and our laughs. It was an honor and a privilege to interact with you. You have inspired and delighted me, and I will treasure the memories for a long time to come.

KNITTING AND YARN

During the retreat we had ample time to gather and share our common passion for knitting. The knitters among us had a number of inspiring and novel knitting classes for which Natasja joined forces with the one and only Nancy Marchant. For the retreat, Natasja created Knit on Texel designs (the Marram vest and the Schelpje scarf ), that were the starting point for some of the classes.

In the yarn department we were spoilt by Catharina Zantingh, dyer extraordinaire and owner of the beautiful LYS Wolverhalen.

The yarn used for the Knit on Texel designs – a beautiful fingering weight British BFL & Masham -, was also dyed by Catharina, and the colors were inspired by the ever-changing dune landscape of Texel.

CUISINE

Food photograpy by Karin Gaasterland

We’ve invited award winning cookbook author chef Karin Gaasterland of Cuisine Carine to take care of our lunches and dinners. The absolutely beautiful and amazing tasting food was prepared in our villas, using fresh, local produce from the island.

Accomodation

We stayed at ‘Nieuw Leven’ (New Life), a group accommodation that has won an award for being the most sustainable project in Europe.
We thoroughly enjoyed the grazing sheep that surround Nieuw Leven, the chickens that laid their eggs for our breakfasts, and the unmatched views over the Texel landscape.
