Lenten

The walls of my room fade away in the blue  *

The design for Lenten was based on the beautifully fresh and simple cotton/linen blend hammam towels I saw in abundance during my stay in Marrakech. Worked in a crisp summer yarn, like linen or cotton, Lenten is effortlessly cool and versatile, a perfect summer garment to wear and to knit.
A simple, seamless stockinette body ensures soothing, mindless holiday knitting, while the corrugated rib trims add interest and direction.

Lenten looks just as good worn open, layered
over summer dresses and shirts, as closed on its own with your favorite summer skirt or pants.

CONSTRUCTION
Lenten is worked from the top down. The top is almost seamless, it has shoulder seams only, which are closed with a 3-needle bind off on the outside. You start by casting on the shoulders which are shaped working short rows. The back and fronts are worked down to the underarm, where they are joined. The body is worked in one piece down to the edge of the corrugated rib border.
Stitches are picked up for the corrugated rib front bands, the corrugated rib neckband and the armholes, which are finished with an
applied i-cord. To interfere as little as possible with the lines of the corrugated rib front bands, simple snaps are sewn on for closure. The tassels, another little nod to beautiful Marrakech, are optional and attached to a simple crocheted cord.

Note on the Corrugated Rib trims: since a lot of knitters dislike purling while working colorwork, two sets of instructions are given for the Corrugated Rib. The first one will instruct you to work the Corrugated Rib in the more traditional way, holding two strands. The second will instruct you to work the Corrugated Rib in two passes for every row, so you will be only handling one strand at the time.
